“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

“I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

Is there ever a day?

Is there ever a day… a set of comments by Mr Trump… that is not worse than the prior comments he has made? Is there ever a day – regardless of your political beliefs – that you can feel that our country has leadership that is thoughtful, caring, rational, consumed by a sense of what is good, is best for all Americans? Who can feel hopeful about the direction our country is getting and taking. Please explain it to me because I cannot share in the hope. This is not about conservatives or independents or liberals…it is about what is best for America and (all) Americans

I am confused!

I am confused: I have always thought that the person who becomes our president, regardless of their individual views and values, becomes the president of all of us. They then become entrusted with the duty of carrying out and certifying the values of our country. Am I wrong.? I may disagree with the economic theory that the president espouses. I may disagree with the approach that they choose to take in regard to international relations. I should never have to concern myself, however, with the disquieting sense that my president, the president for all of us, does not also hold to the values that our country holds near and dear, I should not have to concern myself with the fact that, although I may not agree with the president’s policies, those policies are being executed in the belief that they will lead to a safer life for all Americans, a better standard of living for all Americans, a healthier ecology for all future generations of Americans [and others], a moral commitment to our constitution and to our bill of rights……. Am I wrong?

Where is the hope?

I cannot remember what it feels like to actually feel hopeful.  The world is spinning and it becomes evermore challenging to try to spin with it.  Is it a function of the way our country is being led [or not]?  Is it a function of the geometric impact of technological advance?  Is it the ever increasing isms in our culture [racism, classism, isolationism, facebookism, instagramism, ageism, etc]?  Is it the fact that I am now part of the older citizen demographic?  Of course, it is a blend, a compendium of these factors.  What to do?  How to move forward?  How to address all the fear and distrust and hate that seems to be the prevailing climate?  I wish I knew!

I try to face each day as if the glass is half full and it is my responsibility to fill it the rest of the way. I try to make a difference.  I face the responsibility of being responsible for my actions as well as for the well-being of my family and those I care about.  I own the responsibility for being a productive citizen of this world, of caring about people and pets, life and land.  I see Black lives matter, Cop lives matter…..I think all lives matter.  Yet we continue to demean personal dignity and now live in a autocratic meritocracy that does not feel the same way…that accepts…no demands that there be a totally dependent underclass.  Their sense of entitlement and superiority is maddening!

Where do I fit?  How do I proceed?  What can I do?
